It was on this day in 1905 near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, that Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first powered flight. It lasted for 12 seconds, but changed history. Orville was lying down on the lower wing of the craft, at the controls; Wilbur running alongside.Powered flight is now so commonplace, but what a sight it must have been for those on the beach that day!
